Certificates, Everyday and Work Life Finnish

Combine the courses you have studied into one certificate!

You can get a separate certificate worth 20 credit units (ECTS) or 25 credit units (ECTS) of your courses of Finnish as a second language.  You have two different alternatives depending on whether you take courses at the basic and intermediate level or whether you take courses at the advanced level. Courses at the basic and the intermediate level give you a certificate in Everyday Finnish and courses at the advanced level give you a certificate in Finnish in studies and work life.

If you would like to get a certificate of completed courses in Finnish as a second language, here’s the application form.

Everyday Finnish (a minimum of 20 ECTS), level B1 

When you have completed the required courses

  • in most cases, you are able to communicate in an understandable manner in various field-specific situations in your studies and work life
  • you are able to take part in interaction in familiar situations
  • you are able to follow discussions involving familiar topics when there are no idioms used in the discussion
  • you are able to give a short presentation about a topic that is of interest to you
  • you can find and understand the main points of a text that is of a familiar topic to you
  • you are able to produce coherent and understandable texts about topics you are familiar with

You should choose courses from the following list to gain a minimum of 4 ECTS.

  

Finnish in Studies and Work Life (a minimum of 20 ECTS), level B2-C1 

When you have completed the required courses

  • you are able to communicate fluently and appropriately even in demanding situations in your studies and work life
  • you are able to react appropriately in situations and follow the most common rules of communication and interaction in culture-bound situations
  • you are able to summarise different texts using your own words and are able to effortlessly read texts in your own field and critically evaluate what you are reading
  • you are able to carry out a detailed prepared presentation in your own field
  • you are able to follow the basic conventions of the scientific communication in your own field and produce texts in your own field and documents related to work life
  • you are able to tell the difference in conversation between different levels of formality and link your part of the conversation to what was said before in an appropriate manner in terms of the situation
